Review 2005
We got the year off to a pretend goth-rock start by paying tribute to everyone's second favourite androgynous rock icon; Brian Molko. Music was provided by Huddersfield rockers Mary Jane. Read the preview of Violet: Black Eyed at Manchester Online. Black nail polish at the ready!
The Best Club Night Award 2005 goes to And Quentin Wept...Again held at Thompsons Arms in April. That Kaffequeeria are a rum bunch especially running out of cake like that! Still after a few trips to the kissing booth all was forgiven. Check out their web pages for more subversive carry on in NY06!
We had a trip over to the Thompsons Arms ourselves in May. Read what happened at Sonance.
Our first funk night, Off The Deck, was held in July. We had the misfortune to accidentally clash with the relaunch of Homoelectric which we would have gone to if we weren't doing this! This was a real feel-good evening and I finally got to play Last Night A DJ Saved My Life!
In August I was asked to provide the entertainment (which makes a change from being the entertainment) at the Pride Games Canadian party which proved to be a great night! Held in Manchester Town Hall, the stained glass windows shook to the nationality-appropriate (!) sounds of Bryan Adams, Alanis Morrissette, Avril Lavigne and erm...lots of other non-canadian stuff from 70's disco to noughties electro! Rock'n'Roll!
Life on Mars? returned to Retro Bar in October, and wow!, we were handsomely rewarded for getting our lippy on as the most amazing and beautiful people turned out to dance their socks off to The Thin White Duke's finest with us! Thank you!!
In November Chris and I DJ'd as part of the Queer Bodies event at the Green Room in various guises. We played an expectedly bonkers mix of Marilyn Manson, Hole, Franz Ferdinand, Massive Attack, Peaches, Sugababes and The Divynls. How queer indeed!
